MEALS
The
kitchen is fully equipped to assist staff and residents to prepare light meals,
snacks and beverages etc. All meals are served in the spacious dining room though
residents may take breakfast in their own bedroom if they so wish. The dining
room is equipped with French doors which overlook the gardens to the rear of the
building. All meals are freshly cooked on the premises by an experienced cook
and the menus are devised in collaboration with the residents in their monthly
meeting with staff.
A choice of alternative dishes is offered if a resident does not feel like the
fare on any particular day's menu. We are also happy to cater for special diets. |

LAUNDRY
All items
of personal laundry are washed on the premises in our fully equipped laundry room.
For this reason, we ask for all clothing to be clearly marked with the resident's
name on admission.
OTHER
FACILITIES
Regular
visits are made by outside agencies such as a hairdresser, chiropodist, dentist
and optician. Also, health visitors, district nurses and physiotherapists can
be arranged if needed.
Bath hoists and showers are provided in the bathrooms to assist with bathing and
to make life more comfortable. There is a payphone available if residents prefer
not to have their own telephone line. Chaplains of various denominations visit
Southlands regularly and residents are encouraged to attend local churches if
they wish to do so.
A large selection of up-to-date large print books and other reading materials
are available; newspapers and periodicals are supplied to order. Various activities
are held daily and outings arranged to the theatre and various places of interest.
Entertainers are booked regularly and the home often arranges evenings where shows
in the style of the "Old Time Music Hall" prove extremely popular and evoke lots
of happy memories for the residents. Regular residents' meetings are held every
month.
VISITING
Relatives
and friends are welcome to visit freely and are welcome to stay and have a meal
(if prior notice is given). Parking is available either within the grounds of
the home or nearby.
If you wish to view the home, please telephone to arrange for a mutually convenient
time. We would encourage prospective residents to accompany relatives during such
visits.
